Hey all ~
The fans have an idea for Jim’s book, but first, I want to add my thanks to everyone who has done SO much to help support and promote “Life’s That Way.” Your comments and kindness to Jim have been awesome, your reviews are lovely, and your efforts have done so much. On Jim’s Facebook, I’ve read stories of such loss, heartache, survival and hope as to bring tears to my eyes. It’s wonderful to know his story has touched so many so deeply.
Knowing, then, what this book means to us, could we as fans gird our loins (or are we girding lions?) one more time.
That is, can folks please contact some radio shows? He’s been doing great on them, and the more people his message of hope reaches, the more awesome it would be!
Here’s some contact info for us:
Terri Gross, Fresh Air, email at talkback@whyy.org
Also:
Any of the pertinent shows on NPR (Fresh Air, Talk of the Nation, All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Weekend Edition Saturday, Weekend Edition Sunday, Weekend All Things Considered).
To submit the story idea to any or all of these shows, use the form at http://help.npr.org/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=5670&task=ticket
Fill out the form, select “Submit A Program Idea” from the drop-down menu, and select the show(s) you wish to submit the idea for. You can do it once for each of the shows if you like.
Some airplay on any or all of these would be almost as good as national TV exposure.
Also, a very influential show is Larry Mantle’s Airtalk. There’s a form people can fill out, selecting that show, at http://www.publicradio.org/applications/formbuilder/user/form_display.php?form_code=d2ca8b972bee
Please—make note of the positive, uplifting, helpful, and humorous aspects of the book, as there’s a great deal of resistance to covering a “sad” book.
There you go, folks! Again, thank you so much for all you’ve done. You are the wind beneat this book’s wings.
Cheers ~
Erin.

You ROCK!
You’re welcome
Hey again! Us grassroots agitators are at it again, with a plot to get Jim’s book noticed by Oprah! Here’s the particulars as I’ve posted them:
Now, plenty of people know that I’m big on promoting Jim Beaver’s memoir, “Life’s That Way.” Initially I did it as a cancer survivor and because Jim’s a good guy, but having read it, it’s become something deeply personal, for me. And really, I’ve seen so many others likewise moved, there’s no telling how wide the ripples have flowed from the simple act of people sharing with others how LTW has touched them.
That’s making a difference, guys. For goodness’ sake, this book has earned 4 out of 4 stars in People Magazine, and it’s on the Boston Globe’s “Books to Read this Summer” list! w00t!
But it deserves an appearance on a greater stage, and this is where I’m asking you wonderful folks for help, once more. With my friend, Jane, we’ve gathered info for another grassroots effort by fans, and that is a BIG push to get this book noticed on The Oprah Winfrey Show. How do we do that? As Jane posted:
At Oprah.com, there’s a message board community. They have some strict rules about no outside URLs or advertising, per se, but it strikes me that some fans of the book might be able to get a conversation going in the Oprah community that might translate into some attention by the show itself. And in any event, it might generate some interest in the book.
You have to register with Oprah.com to post messages in the boards, but that’s pretty simple.
To find the boards, I think this link will work directly. http://www.oprah.com/community/community/tows/talkabout;jsessionid=ac11087830d68c4198927fe34505b4cdeddf49ea22bd.e38LaxmSb3qRe34NaxeKaN8La3z0
If it doesn’t, then just go to Oprah.com and click the Community link at the top right.
- So, that’s the deal. Jane has started a discussion thread, here: http://www.oprah.com/community/thread/111509 But feel free to start your own!
If those who have read “Life’s That Way” can get some discussion going, if we can share our thoughts and personal stories, we have the power to move others and maybe make something wonderful happen. Y’all have done awesome at this, so far. Will you take just a little more time to offer your thoughts, share your review, speak a few words from the heart? It would mean a lot to me, and I know Jim would be pretty tickled, too.
Thanks, everyone, and please, tell your friends!
Cheers ~
Erin
As usual, I’ll post your comment as a new article soon, stay tuned
Thank you, sweetie! You are the best.

I’ve posted the article
This is a little off my usual SN traiI……..
I finally broke down and read this book. If you did not love Jim Beaver before, you will after reading this. Anyone forced to watch a loved one’s life end at the hands of cancer can relate to the grace under fire that this man shows. Jim, like my father, is a giant among men. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1986. She had a modified mastectomy to remove a small lesion. She, however, suffered a reoccurrence in 1988 and died in 1994 with a collapsing spine and cancer in 60% of the bones in her body. My dad was by her side every minute of every day. These marvelous men deserve our love and gratitude. These men deserve love and happiness for themselves as well. Jim, I salute you.
Erin, I read the Oprah post. You are a cancer survivor. Tell your story – the good, the bad and the ugly, because you are an inspiration. My mother used to say that ’someday, every cancer patient will be a cancer survivor’. She believed that some of the spirit of those who do not survive live on in those that do. I know women that have beaten the cancer that killed her….go figure, that stubborn, fantastic broad was right. God Bless.
